BASIC SEARCH
This search will display all entries that contain the word “marriage” in any of the metadata fields.
PHRASE SEARCH
- Search string: “same-sex marriage”
This search will display all entries that contain the exact phrase “same-sex marriage” in any of the metadata fields.
MULTI TERM SEARCH
- Search string: homosexual same-sex
This search will display all entries that contain at least one of the query terms.
IN FIELD/ADVANCED SEARCH
"SIMPLE" IN FIELD SEARCH
As keywords could contain special characters, they are treated as an exact match by Figshare’s search function.
- Search string: :keyword: remarriage
This search displays all entries with the exact keyword remarriage.
- Search string: :keyword: platonic love
This search diplays all entries with the exact keyword platonic love. Only the operator AND works as search delimiter.
- Search string: :keyword: scrf=(cpcm,solvent=benzene).
This search displays all entries with the exact keyword.
- Search string: :keyword: Christian-Muslim Relations
This search displays all entries with the exact keyword “Christian-Muslim Relations.” If you want to break up the keyword and search for a specific category you need to add AND as in the complex example below.
- Search string: :keyword: X + y
This search displays all entities having the keyword “X + y”
- Search string: :title: same-sex unions
This search displays all entries that have at least one of the words in the title, working as “in-field multi-term search” by relevance.
- Search string: :title: “same-sex unions”
(NB How is this different/better than the previous one?)
This search displays only entries that have the specified phrase included in the title AND with lower priority results containing all inflected words derived from the common stems.
- Search string: :description: fasting and sexual abstinence
This search displays all entries that include at least one of the words from the list above in the description as a multi-term search ordered by relevance AND with lower priority results containing all inflected words derived from the common stems.
- Search string: description: “sexual abstinence”
This search displays all entries that have the phrase above contained in the description AND with lower priority results containing all inflected words derived from the common stems.
COMBINED IN-FIELD SEARCH
- Search string: :author: Crouzel OR :author: Harvey OR :author: Evans-Grubbs
This search displays all entries that have at least one of the authors from the list above.
- Search string: :title: women in the early church AND :keyword: virginity
This search displays all entries where the title matches the string from above (multi‑term search by relevance), and has the keyword “virginity” AND with a lower priority results containing all inflected words derived from the common stems for title.
- Search string: :keyword: cancer AND :category: chemistry
This search displays all entries where the keyword is “cancer” and the category is “chemistry” AND with lower priority results containing all inflected words derived from the common stems.
ADVANCED SEARCH MIXED WITH SIMPLE SEARCH
- Search string: :title: women AND :keyword: virginity AND :search_term: antiquity
This search displays entries that have the word “women” in the title AND have the keyword “virginity” AND the expression “antiquity” in any of the metadata fields.
- Search string: :title: women OR :keyword: virginity AND :search_term: antiquity
This search displays all entries that contain “women” in the title, OR both the keyword “virginity” AND the word “antiquity” in any of the metadata fields.
